Bright pale amber. Good beading.	A mellow nose ,with soft ,malty fruit loaf and dry marzipan, or almond oil. Plenty of fruit too, with a faint but appetising fruity acidity against a flinty backdrop; fresh grape, apple and pear or tinned peach, banana and maraschino cherry. After a while there’s a lighter, earthy, more herbal note (dried basil?). Water softens and cleans things, raising the fragrant scents, now accompanied by saddle soap. This develops towards waxy fruit; as in a cherry sponge cake, or juicy fruit gum.	Smooth and sweet, but with light acidity lending freshness, so from the off it’s slightly mouth-drying and cooler than you might expect. Charred, with liquorice root and cinnamon in mulled wine. Overall, clean and clearly structured, with a slight mineral tang. Softer with water: now waxy notes and a vanilla egg custard-sweetness are offset by clove and hints of wood.
Ettersmak: Medium length and warming, with some gingery spiciness. Smoother with water and drying, herbal, almost bitter, until marzipan returns in the aftertaste.

Straw	One of the few whiskies that display rather heady notes of aniseed and liquorice at first nosing and even hints of sherry (whilst, yeah, it’s probably bourbon wood). There’s also rather meaty notes, ham, then fresh fruits (more like strawberries) and a ‘raw’ vanilla as well as hints of struck matches, flints and freshly malted barley. A rather big personality. Oh, and also unusual hints of shallots (cooked). With water: really improves, becoming even fresher and superbly herbal. Chives, high-end green tea, green apples, more aniseed and whiffs of hay (after a hot summer day, of course). Very faint soapiness, even after 15 minutes. Nothing unpleasant though.	Nervous attack, less smooth than expected for a Cragganmore, very fresh and very fruity. Apples and kiwis. A lot of liquorice wood as well, some grapefruit, pomegranates… All that’s coated with a few green tannins that do further bring out the freshness. With water: more on fresh fruits, tinned peaches and pineapples, liquorice allsorts, orange drops… More youth and more briskness.
Ettersmak: Long, more gingery, herbal and grassy. A little cardamom and coriander in the aftertaste Oppsummering: Lots happening in this one. It’s not a Cragganmore to sip in an old Chesterfield armchair late at night. The brisk fruitiness is spectacular.
